The Heart of Success by Rob Parsons - AUDIOBOOK
It was a revelation to discover that Rob Parsons is not just head of Care for the Family, but was also a very well known lawyer who has addressed huge groups of professionals all over the world. Not so surprising then that he is able to write a 'management' book and lead seminars on the subject (indeed, the commendations are by people like Sir John Harvey-Jones and the vice-president of SmithKline Beecham). However if you have come across management material before, you should bear two things in mind about this book/tape:
- Everyone in employment would benefit from it, even if not all applies to your situation.
- Unlike almost all other 'business book authors, Rob Parsons actually has a life. 'Making it in business without losing in life' is the subtitle: the idea that your job owns your soul, that success is measured only in career terms and that family is for wimps - has had its day.
The Christian content is so small as to be almost subliminal; however, it is aimed at a very broad market and its ideas are really common-sense and biblically-informed wisdom. One quarter novel, one quarter advice, and one half illustration/story/statistics, it's a compelling listen and a salutary alert to Christians: if these ideas are gaining ground in secular circles, what is our attitude to 'success'?
Score: 7/10 4444444555 - worth listening to.
